Mode: Long term

About the Role

The College Board is looking for a talented Senior UI/Visual Designer to support the College Readiness Assessment (CRA). You will work closely across dependent product teams, along with our design and engineering leads, to create user-friendly designs, UI components, interactions, and templates that will be used to support the end-to-end student and educator experiences.

You will also work closely with fellow design team members, product leads, and engineering partners to conceptualize, ideate, design, and deliver creative solutions that achieve business goals and serve user needs.

You will learn our existing global design system and help build off of it. You will also contribute to the dependent product teams for CRA (like our Digital Assessment Platforms), and working across channels to help reach and support our audience in a consistent way.

What you’ll do

  • Designing engaging experiences through compelling UI/visual design, leveraging our design standards, patterns and UI elements

  • Advocate for design process, methods, core system, and patterns in order to scale, educate, and evangelize consistency and best practices

  • Build out assets of core components of the CRA design system so that the CRA team can leverage those assets in design software like Figma

  • Working with the development team, clearly document the standards of the design system in a user-friendly way

  • Use an iterative process, working closely with UX design and engineering counterparts to design, prototype, and validate design ideas

  • Contribute to the overall visual and UI strategy for the CRA product design, partnering closely with the discipline teams to define a design system to facilitate a unified experience across all of our products

  • Responsive to direction and comfortable working with multiple people from different disciplines to achieve an impactful experience

  • Be a significant contributor to the fostering of our design process and quality standards based on objective, data-driven evidence

  • Document and present system updates to stakeholders and users

  • Work collaboratively with our Design System team to ensure brand and pattern alignment

  • Foster a collaborative and learning environment

  • Nurture a culture of user empathy and deep curiosity that enables us to build simple, intuitive products for our customers

Qualifications

  • Ability to generate and successfully apply product-specific visual ideas grounded in strong UX

  • Advanced understanding of design systems, hierarchy, typography, visual design, data visualization, responsiveness, branding, illustration, iconography and interaction design

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to present ideas effectively—both verbally and visually

  • Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to schedules, and communicate progress

  • Understanding of user experience fundamentals, and their impact on UI and interaction design

  • Experience working within a distributed design team - collaborating with designers on different product teams to create and ideate

  • Constantly think about usability, accessibility, responsiveness and other properties through design execution

  • Must be comfortable designing/prototyping in Figma (med-high fidelity)

  • Have experience in design annotation and specs

  • Designed large-scale, complex enterprise applications in an iterative environment

  • 5-7 years design experience

  • Figma/Principle/Adobe

Your Impact

  • Comfortable leading design on projects, both as an individual contributor and in collaboration with other designers

  • Able to translate art direction and feedback into better design solutions

  • Self-managing but also used to working within a team

  • Someone with experience working in agile, iterative design and delivery environments

  • Effective, but easy-going – someone that is fun to work with and really thrives in a collaborative environment

  • A person with a good sense of humor who isn’t afraid to try and fail (or to try and succeed)

  • Able to provide relevant design case studies and a portfolio of your work
